Description The module is designed to develop language skills up to CEFR B2 level, within a range of specific registers of Spanish. Particularly, those areas relating to economics, business and the professional world.

The module will develop students’ intercultural awareness in Hispanic countries in the professional world.

Students will be supported to develop their accuracy in the written language, their reading and aural comprehension skills, and their fluency in the spoken language. The course is entirely taught in Spanish.
Learning Outcomes By the end of the module students should be able to:
  • demonstrate understanding of the main ideas of a complex text on both concrete and abstract topics, focusing on business, political and economic topics.
  • interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity which guarantees effective interaction with native speakers in a professional environment.
  • produce clear texts on topics related to the business, professional, political or the economic worlds, and explain a viewpoint on a topical issue discussing the advantages and disadvantages of various options.
  • demonstrate understanding of the intercultural differences in Hispanic countries.
  • successfully perform a range of written, oral and aural tasks, including essay writing, oral presentation and discussion of a broad spectrum of topics related to the business, economic, political and professional spheres.

23664-04 : Exam : Exam (Centrally Timetabled) - Written Unseen (40%)
Assessment Methods & Exceptions Assessments:
  • Continuous written assessment: 3 essays (350-400 words each) and 1 reading comprehension, 1 listening comprehension and 1 grammar test do be done during class time (25%)
  • 3 hour written examination: 1 reading comprehension, 1 grammar/vocabulary exercise and 1 essay (400 words) (40%)
  • 15 minute oral exam (20%)
  • 1 hour listening exam (15%)
The written examination is regarded as essential for the successful completion of this module; if the student fails this component but passes the module overall they will still be required to re-sit the written examination in the Supplementary Examination Period.

Reassessment: For all other components: Resit failed components in the Supplementary Examination period
