Description This module is aimed to the Intermediate level learner and will consolidate, develop, and extend listening, speaking, reading and writing skills acquired at Intensive Japanese Language Beginner II or equivalent. Receptive and productive skills will be developed within a range of contexts in the target language by the use of semi-authentic materials, text and practice books, etc. Structured language will be taught in the context of situations and personalised topics and you will begin to cope with a variety of less predictable real life situations.Students will practise spoken Japanese, and receive formative feedback, as they build up to the oral exam at the end of the year (formally assessed as part of Intermediate II).
Students will learn further 200 Kanji throughout the course.
Students will be given the opportunity to work in a group as well as individually.
The course will also aim to equip students with the ability to access the language autonomously.
Learning Outcomes By the end of the module students should be able to:
  • show understanding of two styles of Japanese: Formal Japanese and informal Japanese
  • listen to and show detailed understanding of medium-length examples of Japanese spoken at a natural speed and understand the gist of more extended speech.
  • read and understand medium-to-long-length semi-authentic texts in Japanese.
  • read and write approximately 450 Kanji, including 250 Kanji introduced in Intensive Japanese Language Beginners I and Intensive Japanese Language Beginners II.
