Description This module is designed to provide students with skills essential to the preparation and production of their theses or research, and will introduce students to selected methods of study at postgraduate level and give some attention to methods / issues of interdisciplinary study. Combining a focus on academic research skills (developing a methodology; academic writing; citations and bibliographies; etc) with research methods and approaches more specific to the film and television industries, the module will also teach a range of associated skills (such as oral presentation and advanced web searching) that are applicable in both the academic and film/television sectors.
Learning Outcomes By the end of the module students should be able to:
  • Produce a structured plan of intended research
  • Demonstrate an advanced ability to organise and present academic research objectives and aims
  • Demonstrate a sophisticated understanding of academic research in an audio-visual production context
  • Apply and synthesise knowledge to produce a trailer for an extended piece of audiovisual research
