In this course, students perfect the knowledge of the Spanish language and linguistic skills that they have acquired during the previous three years, working on translation from Spanish into English and English into Spanish, writing essays, reports and commentaries in Spanish, doing oral and aural comprehension exercises, working on socio-linguistics and text analysis. Particular attention is paid to the language of business, economics and politics, as well as modes of address and the language of advertising.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the module students should be able to:
demonstrate understanding of spoken standard Spanish to a high level;
converse fluently and express complex ideas in Spanish;
write essays, reports and commentaries in the appropriate register of Spanish
Translate different texts and different registers into and from Spanish and English with accuracy.

Assessment Methods & Exceptions
Assessment Pattern:
Coursework: One 15% 700 word summary-analysis of an article in Spanish, end of first term.
3hr Written Examination: 50%: In Spanish (one 350-500 words essay, 1 reading comprehension, 1 350-400 words translation)
Aural Exam 15%: In Spanish (listening comprehension- 1hr)
Oral Exam 20%: In Spanish (a 15 minute oral presentation on a free topic –previously agreed with tutor: guided oral presentations- with a 5 minutes question session afterwards)
