Description The module will cover the basic principles of linguistics, with specific emphasis on language variation, the dialects of Spanish and the minority languages of Spain.
Learning Outcomes By the end of the module students should be able to:
  • have an appreciation of the key issues in the study of language.
  • comprehend the strengths and weaknesses of the Sapir Whorf hypothesis
  • appreciate the different varieties of Spanish and be able to identify and analyse basic differences between them
  • analyse and assess contextually the basic political and linguistic contexts of the minority languages of Spain.

30119-03 : Essay - 2,000 words : Coursework (70%)
