Languages in Action is a vocational module in which students will learn about cultural organisations in the city of Birmingham and explore ways of promoting multilingualism, multiculturalism and community through activities appropriate to those organisations.
Languages in Action B continues the exploration of the positive contribution that speaking more than one language can make in the context of cultural organisations in a multicultural twenty first-century city. Students will build on the knowledge and understanding acquired in Languages in Action A in order to research and explore ways of engaging actively and collaboratively with the wider community. They will propose and present an event or activity with an obvious language focus, designed to bring a particular group (educational /cultural /social) into one of the University’s physical or cultural spaces, such as the Barber Institute of Fine Art, the Bramall Music Building or the Green Heart. Students will work in groups, supported by the tutor during the seminar sessions.
