Description This module will introduce students to the topics of history, culture, society and the economy of the UAE, both past and present. The first part of the module will focus on history and traditional culture of the UAE. The second part of the module will consider modern human geography and education, as well as the current infrastructure and economy of the UAE. Across the whole module the major themes will be how the UAE is establishing a knowledge-based society, encouraging multiculturism, promoting wellbeing, while positioning itself as one of the global outlooking economies.
Learning Outcomes By the end of the module students should be able to:
  • Demonstrate an awareness of the idea of the modern UAE, the historical conditions in which it developed, and the contemporary global context within which it operates.
  • Have an awareness of the human geography and education systems of the UAE
  • Have an awareness of significant themes relating to a knowledge-based, multicultural society.
  • Have an awareness of how the UAE is establishing itself in a global context
