Description This module will discuss issues of organisational culture, exploring challenges faith communities and faith-based organisations face in shaping, sustaining and remodelling culture and the external and internal pressures for and against cultural transformation, particularly in the light of social pressures around migration, globalisation, securitisation, excellence in governance practice and secularisation. We will explore issues such as leading change, intercultural engagement, globalisation and secularisation, corporate social responsibility, entrepreneurship, public ethics and religion in the public square, social inclusion, media engagement, conflict resolution and contemporary approaches to interreligious relations, again balancing literature from the organisational sciences and leadership, business management and administration with insight from theological reflection and the daily practice of faith communities.
Learning Outcomes By the end of the module students should be able to:
  • Contextualise contemporary literature on organisational culture and cultural change into faith-based organisations, exploring its practical application and professional implications;
  • Develop strategies for changing organisational culture which reflect and have resonance for a particular religious tradition or context and interpret the implications of social transformations (including those around globalisation and secularisation) for their workplace and/or religious context;
  • Apply their learning to specific practical contexts and challenges in the workplace;
  • Demonstrate their understanding and application of practical and professional leadership skills in areas such as interreligious relations, culture change, social change, and media and public engagement
