This module provides training in the fields of queer and trans histories. Taking a global perspective and ranging across historical periods, the module will equip students to handle a diverse range of scholarship. Our focus will be on innovative recent work within the discipline of history, rather than classic or purely theoretical texts. We will also work with primary source material such as film, literature, medico-legal texts, and oral histories and will consider the particular challenges of assembling a queer archive. This module would be particularly useful for students developing dissertations in this area.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the module students should be able to:
analyse and critically appraise key events and historical processes relevant to the subject under scrutiny;
analyse and critically evaluate a wide range of relevant primary source material;
critically evaluate the historiographical context and trends of the subject under exploration;
summarise, synthesise and evaluate the subject material in a sophisticated written form
