Description The module will allow students to study a historical theme or area in depth, under the guidance of an individual member of staff drawing mainly on secondary sources (and primary where appropriate). In conjunction with other modules in the programme, the module will allow students to develop an appreciation of history as a chronologically and geographically varied subject and enhance their awareness of the texture and variety of an ever more complex discipline. The module will require students not only to analyse and explain the past, but also to engage in critical evaluation of key contemporary evidence and the relevant historiography.
Learning Outcomes By the end of the module students should be able to:
  • analyse and critically appraise key events and historical processes relevant to the subject under scrutiny
  • analyse and critically evaluate a wide range of relevant primary source material
