Description The module consolidates linguistic skills to enable students to work independently on Latin texts in the original language, building upon existing knowledge. It develops analytical and critical skills by means of advanced grammar and reading classes focusing in detail on a text or texts.
Learning Outcomes By the end of the module students should be able to:
  • Present research on aspects of the set Latin text in essay form.
  • Research cultural and literary aspects of selected texts making use of a wide range of original sources, scholarly/critical literature, and scholarly editions or commentaries.
  • Translate set and unseen Latin texts.
  • Analyse and comment upon stylistic / linguistic features of Greek texts.

Assessment Methods & Exceptions Assessment:

Coursework exercise (4,000 words) assessing skills in commenting on the linguistic and stylistic features of a text or texts (100%).
