Description Global Communications offers students the opportunity to develop skills and knowledge in the uses of different forms of media in a global context. The module explores the interconnectedness of global media landscapes and their impact on cultural exchange, political discourse, and economic development. Students will critically analyse the role of transnational corporations, governments, and non-governmental organizations in shaping global media flows. The module will explore key concepts such as media imperialism, cultural globalization, and digital divides. Through case studies and practical exercises, students will develop a nuanced understanding of the challenges and opportunities presented by global media in the 21st century.
Learning Outcomes By the end of the module students should be able to:
  • Analyse the historical and contemporary trends in global media;
  • Evaluate the impact of global media on cultural diversity and identity;
  • Critically assess the role of transnational corporations and governments in shaping global media landscapes;
  • Develop a critical understanding of the challenges and opportunities presented by digital media in a global context
