Description This module introduces students to the relationship(s) between History and Heritage; or, to the way(s) the past is preserved in and consumed by the present, with a focus on sites and themes of particular historical interest or significance. It also introduces students to group projects and group assessment. Working on a supervised topic relating to a particular time and place students will present their findings collectively at the end of the module. Within the module, 'History and Heritage' offers students the chance to study one of a range of modern and pre-modern options, relating to the local area (Birmingham and the West Midlands) and beyond, depending on staff availability and expertise in any given year.
Learning Outcomes By the end of the module students should be able to:
  • Demonstrate, understand and explain the main features of a defined historical topic.;
  • Work as an effective team-member of a group examining a specific historical topic;
  • Present effectively a range of primary and secondary sources in the context of a group presentation.
