'Practising History: Skills in History' supports students in the transition from school to university, and provides a firm grounding in the skills needed to study History at undergraduate level. Through weekly lectures and fortnightly small group seminars, students will develop an understanding of the nature of the historical discipline; the expectations of undergraduate work; and the principles of academic integrity and referencing. They will also develop their personal research skills; their knowledge of the on-campus and online resources available at the University of Birmingham; their written communication skills; and a foundational understanding of different methodological and theoretical approaches to the writing of history.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the module students should be able to:
Demonstrate understanding of the principles of academic integrity and academic referencing;
Demonstrate the ability to work independently to explain and analyse the material under scrutiny;
Demonstrate the ability to communicate that understanding clearly and effectively in writing.
