This module will introduce you to foundational concepts, terms, critical frameworks and some key organisations within the global cultural and creative industries. It will also consider evolving trends and emergent practices to enable you to gain an understanding of the economic, social, and cultural significance of these industries in the contemporary moment. Key topics might include: the history and development of the cultural and creative industries; the role of technology, innovation and digital platforms; intellectual property and copyright issues as they intersect with organisations, venues and creatives; global and local contexts; and, the impact of these industries on identity, representation, wellbeing, inclusivity, and cultural diversity.
Topics will be explored through lectures and seminars, utilising case studies and input from external cultural partners, where appropriate.

By the end of the module students should be able to:
Demonstrate an understanding of key concepts and theoretical approaches to studying the cultural and creative industries
Analyse the economic, social and cultural impact of the cultural and creative industries in local and global contexts
Analyse new trends and emergent practices in the cultural and creative industries, including those involving digital and technological developments
Evaluate how the cultural and creative industries impact on aspects of identity, wellbeing, representation, diversity and inclusivity.
