Description
This module introduces students to specialist subject learning and teaching and to some key whole school issues. University based sessions and school based practical experience offer opportunities for students to develop their understanding and practice of teaching. One of the most important experiences is the planning and evaluation of learning experiences for small groups of secondary school students, supported by an exploration of the place of their subject within national frameworks and initiatives and at least one area of cross-curricular and whole school concern. Subject areas available are English, Geography, History, Physical Education, Mathematics, Modern Foreign Languages, Religious Education, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Physics with Maths.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the module students should be able to:
Plan for, teach and evaluate learning experiences for small groups of secondary school students;
Demonstrate a critical understanding of the place of their subject within national frameworks and initiatives<;/li>
Demonstrate a deep, systematic and critical awareness of at least one subject area;
Demonstrate a reflective and evaluative awareness of some of the whole school issues research in the context of their subject;
Comply with the Secretary of State’s Teachers’ Standards or their subsequent replacement.
