Description
This module provides opportunities for students to become specialist subject teachers ready to enter the profession. University- based sessions and school-based practical experience offer will use key theoretical perspectives to stretch and challenge students to develop further their understanding and practice of teaching. Key to these learning experiences is the planning and evaluation of learning experiences for whole classes of secondary school students and the development of critical and reflective capabilities in order to evaluate effectiveness and identify ways to improve. In addition, students will continue to explore the place of their subject within national frameworks and initiatives and address at least one further area of cross-curricular and whole school concern. Subject areas available are English, Geography, History, Physical Education, Mathematics, Modern Foreign Languages, Religious Education, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Physics with Maths.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the module students should be able to:
Plan for, teach and evaluate learning experiences for whole classes of secondary school students;
Reflect in and on their practice lessons in order to evaluate their effectiveness and identify areas for improvement;
Demonstrate a broader and deeper critical understanding of the place of their subject within the school context;
Demonstrate a systematic and sympathetic awareness of the needs of learners;
Demonstrate the capacity to combine theory and practice through engaging in a mini research initiative in a learning context;
Comply with the Secretary of State’s Teachers’ Standards or their subsequent replacement.
