Description Initially on professional practice, students observe lessons and move over time to teach around half a normal teacher's timetable, providing relevant documentation and an evaluation for every lesson taught. As professional practice continues, the module explores the continuing reflective and analytical development of the student as they review teaching and learning and reflect on the process of becoming a full professional in a school context.

This module is closely linked with the School Studies modules where the theoretical underpinning of the practice is discussed to enable the students to analyse the ideas in practice. Much of the module depends upon student's individual work as a practitioner and reflecting in and on practice so that they can develop their theoretical framework, improve their effectiveness and identify pathways for future personal and professional development.
Learning Outcomes By the end of the module students should be able to:
  • Apply the approaches and insights from the programme and their own initiative to plan and teach learning experiences for small groups and whole classes
  • Demonstrate reflective, analytical and self-critical capabilities in the evaluation of planned and taught learning experiences;
  • Understand systematically the place of core subjects within national frameworks and initiatives;
  • Develop a critical awareness of some of the whole school issues research in the context of their subject.
  • Demonstrate a reflective and critical understanding of the implications of their professional practice to their future development as a teacher;
  • Comply with the Secretary of State’s Teachers’ Standards or their subsequent replacement.
