Description
This module provides opportunities for students to become effective primary teachers ready to enter the profession. University- based sessions supported by school-based training and practical experience will use key theoretical perspectives to stretch and challenge students to develop further two critical dimensions of their academic and professional learning: First, their understanding of learning and the needs of learners within curriculum areas in the 3-11 age range. Second, their practice of teaching. Key to these learning experiences is the planning and evaluation of learning experiences for whole classes of early years or primary school students and the development of critical and reflective capabilities in order to evaluate effectiveness and identify ways to improve. In addition, students will extend their subject studies and develop their professional research and evaluation capabilities.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the module students should be able to:
Plan for, teach and evaluate learning experiences for whole classes of early years or primary school students;
Reflect in and on their practice lessons in order to evaluate their effectiveness and identify areas for improvement;
Demonstrate a broader and deeper critical understanding of learning and teaching contexts through extended subject studies
Demonstrate a systematic and sympathetic awareness of the needs of learners
