This module aims to develop student understanding of the inclusion of children and young people with sensory impairment in a range of educational settings and wider society. It aims to increase the understanding of the nature of the relationship between the sensory impairments and the communicative and environmental difficulties associated with these conditions and how to meet the needs of those individuals.
The aims of the module are to:
To study a range of sensory impairments (hearing, vision, multisensory) which give rise to and/or are associated with delays and disorders in individuals form 0-25 years of age
To gain an understanding of the underlying pathology of sensory impairments
To gain an understanding of the nature of the relationship between these impairments and the communicative, mobility, environmental difficulties associated with these conditions
To study a range of approaches for the inclusion of children and young people with sensory impairment in a range of educational settings and wider society.
Provide information on the range of support needed for children, young people and their families.

By the end of the module students should be able to:
Understand the impact of sensory impairments on a range of aspects of children’s development
Understand nature of the relationship between these impairments and the communicative, mobility, environmental difficulties associated with these conditions
Understand the different needs of learners with sensory impairments
Understand the range of approaches for the inclusion of children and young people with sensory impairment in a range of educational and social settings.
