Description The aim of this module is to enable students to meet outcomes that can only be acquired, developed, and demonstrated within the classroom. It has a focus on practical skills across all standards and includes teaching practice (TP). TP, together with the observation of colleagues working with learners with SI, provides a valuable opportunity for the trainee to develop as a reflective practitioner. The module isolates all the specific professional requirements required to be named a 'qualified teacher of...' according to DfE criteria as opposed to the more academic components in other modules in this programme.

Some of the practical aspects of the module will require attendance at study weekends.
Learning Outcomes By the end of the module students should be able to:
  • Demonstrate skills in planning and teaching a programme suitable for children with sensory impairment, using relevant and differentiated teaching methods
  • Critically reflect on practice leading to adaptation/development in skills and techniques to improve impact for learners
  • Critically analyse the use of resources and equipment, leading to adaption and advice, so creating improved accessibility for pupils in different environments
  • Demonstrate sensitivity towards the educational needs of individual pupils within a group including concerns about self-image and behaviour
  • Demonstrate skills in delivering evaluated training to non-specialist colleagues
  • Demonstrate the ability to work in respectful and positive partnership with families
