This module explores the impact of a Multi-sensory impairment on all aspects of a child's development, and the role of a QTMSI.
It looks at impact of the heterogeneous and low-incidence nature of this disability and the impact of this on the structures that support children with MSI.
It looks at the impact of congenital deafblindness on early development, and of ways of assessing and identifying progress;
It looks at the impact on families of understanding the needs of and caring for children with MSI (deafblindness), and at the role of a QTMSI in supporting families, settings and other professionals to build their capacity to understand the impact of this disability on early development and access to learning.
It looks at the changing role of a QTMSI as the child grows up, and their needs, and the needs of their families and settings also change, and explores the role of an MSI teacher in bringing together the professional skills available across health, education and care teams to achieve high-quality outcomes for children and young people with MSI.
Some practical aspects of the module will require attendance at a study weekend.

Evaluate the impact of their role in building the capacity of the professionals and systems around them to recognise and support the needs of this group of learners;
Evaluate their own potential for bias, and steps they might take to mitigate against this;
