This module aims to develop knowledge and understanding of the role of the specialist educator. It will introduce key models/frameworks which will be used throughout the course. These include the 'Access to Learning – Learning to Access model', bioecological systems theory, and the 'practitioner-researcher toolkit'. The module will equip students to have a detailed knowledge and understanding of current educational legislation and practice, including promoting understanding of how their ongoing role is informed by these and how this may change over time. It will also support students to understand the specialist educators' role as an 'agent of change', as they work alongside other educational professionals, health and social care professionals and families. They will learn the importance of their role in providing specialist oversight of the education and development of a child/young person with sensory impairment. This will include the importance of working alongside the child/young person and other key stakeholders to facilitate key transitions throughout their educational journey.

4. Critically analyse the role of the specialist educator as an 'agent of change' as they work in partnership the children and young people with sensory impairment and their family, and other key stakeholders.
