Description 00976:
Workshop: This module comprises a series of workshops in which physics understanding is developed through solving general problems. Training is provided in various communication skills, that may include using document preparation software, e.g. LaTeX, giving oral presentations, working in small groups both to solve problems and prepare a poster. Students are made aware of the issues and consequences of plagiarism. Career planning, including guidance on CV preparation, is introduced. Programming skills are introduced and developed in the computing laboratory sessions.

Learning Outcomes By the end of the module students should be able to:
  • Understand the relationship between different areas of physics;
  • Apply this understanding to the solution of “real life” problems; develop the communication skills needed to convey their knowledge to others, including the ability to work effectively in groups;
  • Demonstrate basic familiarity with the modern programming language introduced during the course;
