Exclusions
Description This module builds on the knowledge acquired during a year's study in Japan. It will teach students to critically analyse written Japanese and to develop their comprehension skills by reading different styles of writing. This module also aims to enhance students' ability to express themselves in Japanese through debates on the topics read.
Learning Outcomes By the end of the module the student should be able to:
  • Read substantial pieces of Japanese writing in various styles
  • Use technical vocabulary that relates to the topics and/or degree subject both in speech and writing.
  • Recognise, comprehend and manipulate a variety of registers.
  • Undertake individual research of material, through library research including Internet and /or interview.
  • Using IT tools, deliver an oral presentation in the target language on a complex topic and debate related issues.
Assessment 20694-11 : Oral-Aural Exercise with supporting written/visual aids : Presentation (50%)
20694-12 : 2hr reading and writing exam : Exam (Centrally Timetabled) - Written Unseen (50%)
Assessment Methods & Exceptions Assessments: Oral-aural exercise (with supporting written/visual aids) (50%) and Two-hour reading and writing exam (50%)
Alternative assessment if on campus activity is restricted:If live oral assessments are planned, then the alternative will either be recorded presentations or conducted via Zoom/Skype.
Proctored exams will be converted to take home papers
