M.Eng. Mechatronic and Robotic Engineering with Industrial Year Full-time
Year: 3
2023/24 Session
To progress to Stage III of the MEng, a student is required to have passed 220 credits in Stages I and II, and to have a Stage II average mark of at least 60% (as required by the IET for accreditation). Students with Stage II marks marginally below 60% may progress to MEng if: a) the Distribution of Module Classes system applied to their second year marks produces an equivalent degree classification for the year of 2(i) or better, or b) the year average when calculated without MOMDs is above 60%
The progression criteria must be met after the first attempt at Stage II assessments, unless the Board of Examiners considers that extenuating circumstances merit reconsideration of a student for MEng progression after reassessment of one or more stage II modules. Failing these criteria means a student progresses to a BEng. See also University Regulation 7.3.1a(vi).
Students on the “..with an Industrial Year" variant of the MEng programme who do not meet the criteria for progression to stage III of the MEng after the assessment of the taught part of stage II (i.e. year 2) will transfer to a BEng immediately. The Industrial Year module is pass/fail only and does not provide an alternative way of achieving the MEng progression criteria. The mark does not count towards the degree classification.
Due to the requirements of IET accreditation for MEng programmes, students who fail any "core" modules at stage 2 but fail less than 20 credits of core modules in years 1 and 2 combined, and still qualify for an undergraduate masters, will normally be transferred to an unaccredited MSci Mechatronics and Robotics with Industrial Year. In this instance "core modules" refers to modules whose learning outcomes are included in UK SPEC. Students who fail any core modules in year 2 and do not qualify for an undergraduate masters will normally be transferred to BSc.
Decisions as to whether a student has met the requirements of the IET accredited programme will be made on a case by case basis.
Students taking an Industrial Year in year three should take the following module:
Programme specific regulation: Due to the requirements of IET accreditation for MEng programmes, students who fail any "core" modules in year 4 will normally be transferred to an unaccredited MSci Mechatronics and Robotics with Industrial Year. In this instance "core modules" refers to modules whose learning outcomes are included in the UK SPEC.
Decisions as to whether a student has met the requirements of the IET accredited programme will be made on a case by case basis.
