This module looks into complex endodontics such as retreatment and surgery and , the perio-endo interface and also the restoration of root-treated teeth. At the end of the module there is a component covering research methods, statistics and designing a clinical study in preparation for subsequent modules. The students will also have a monthly journal club on related topics and also a monthly tutorial where the tutorial lead will invite a different lecturer to discuss details and also bring forward any queries.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the module students should be able to:
Understanding the concept of success and failure in endodontics.
Awareness of the importance and methods available in restoration of endodontically treated teeth highlighting the importance of the coronal seal in long term success
Understanding the relationship between endodontic and periodontal disease and how such lesions should be managed.
Knowledge of risk factors for iatrogenic damage and how this can be repaired.

Assessment:
Open book exam 75% - short question and essay format (3 hours) Case write-up 25% Case write up. The students need to write up a case relevant to this module. The case write up should be 1500 words and around 500 words need to be dedicated to reflections on the management strategy and how the knowledge gained has helped the student enhance their practice. Total 2000 words
Reassessment: Same – use open book exam for reassessment. Students need to get a pass mark in each component as the components are not compensatory
